Air Fryer Filet Mignon
I love using my Ninja Foodi air fryer to make steak at home – it has an indoor grill setting that creates a sear but leaves the meat juicy. Steak is so expensive to order at restaurants, so I splurge on high-quality cuts from the grocery store instead and cook it myself once a week.
Filet mignon is one of the more tender (and pricier) steaks, but it’s very forgiving for home cooks. This recipe is on the higher side for fat and calories, but I love steak, so I incorporate it into my week somehow. If desired, buying a smaller filet or reducing the
mashed potato portion can lower the calorie count. Don’t be intimidated to try this at home – the air fryer really helps achieve delicious, tender results!
If you have a different air fryer at home, you can still cook steak with yours. Just look up a recipe based on your brand of air fryer. It may just not be able to sear the steak.
Ingredients
- 1 lb filet mignon (also called beef tenderloin)
- 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed (simply bend the bottom of each stalk until it snaps naturally at the point where it becomes tough)
- 1 bag instant mashed potatoes
Instructions
1. Preheat the air fryer on the grill setting to “high” (about 400°) with the grill plate inserted.
2. Pat steaks dry and pound to an even thickness (about 1 inch tall). Brush with oil and season with salt and pepper.
3. Grill steaks for 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness. Cook longer if you prefer steaks to be medium-well or well-done. If steaks are too thick, may need to cook longer as well. Transfer to a plate to rest.
4. Remove the grill plate and change the air fryer setting to “air fry” at 375°F. Throw in asparagus and add 1/4 tsp olive oil, salt, and pepper—air fry for 6 minutes, shaking the basket halfway.
5. Meanwhile, prepare mashed potatoes with 2 cups boiling water per package instructions.
6. Serve steaks with asparagus and mashed potatoes.
7. Enjoy with your favorite low-calorie drink. If you are new to cooking, remember it is a skill that takes practice and can be improved.
8. This recipe makes two servings. If cooking for one, place the other half into a Tupperware and eat for lunch or dinner the next day.
